Ctesias, a Greek historian, wrote the first description of the single-horned animal, which was related to Indian wild asses with resemblances to horses, white bodies, blue eyes, and longhorns colored in red, black, and white.

The real animal referenced by Ctesias was most likely the Indian rhinoceros, according to legend.
